CODEM – Sustainable construction and innovative eco-materials – focuses on promoting sustainable construction and eco-material development since its establishment in 2007 in the Hauts-de-France region. As of 2023, it has merged with FRD to form FRD-CODEM, a Technological Resource Center dedicated to developing eco-materials and bio-based materials. Its goal is to facilitate the large-scale deployment of eco-materials with distinct advantages. The Batlab in Amiens serves as a hub for skills and equipment aimed at transferring innovations to the building market. Key services include market research on eco-materials, formulation of materials from laboratory to industrial scale, COFRAC-accredited testing, technical evaluations, environmental assessments, and project management to improve building performance. CODEM actively participates in numerous national events, workshops, and forums focused on eco-materials and bio-based solutions, engaging over 300 participants in initiatives like the “Bio-based Building Materials Day.” They support local stakeholders in enhancing the use of bio-based materials through technical assistance and have also facilitated training for professionals in the sector. Recent achievements include successful COFRAC audits, contributions to the development of plant-based concrete, and partnerships in research projects aimed at advancing sustainable materials. CODEM’s commitment extends to education through guides on bio-based materials for renovation and purchasing, demonstrating its role in innovating the construction industry path towards sustainability.
