Hogeschool van Amsterdam - AMFI - NewTexEco engages in research and production of 3D knitted sweaters, inspired by traditional fisherman's jumpers, with a focus on co-creation, local urban manufacturing, and promoting sustainable consumer behavior. After 20 years in the fashion and textile sector, program coordinator Lucie Huiskens bids farewell to her role at ArtEZ University of the Arts, launching an e-magazine during Dutch Design Week. This digital magazine compiles insights and milestones over two decades, aiming to preserve the sustainable fashion movement's history. Huiskens reflects on the shift in perception regarding sustainability in fashion, which has become a significant topic on government agendas over the years, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in achieving progress. Partnerships with various knowledge institutions and stakeholders have been key to NewTexEco’s success. The establishment of the national innovation network CLICKNL|NextFashion in 2011 was a pivotal moment for the project, showcasing the value of continued collaboration. Looking forward, Huiskens envisions creating interdisciplinary learning environments for students from different institutions to foster innovation in sustainability practices. NewTexEco also explores various projects, including the "Closing the Knitwear Loop" initiative, which emphasizes innovation and circularity in knitwear production. The organization actively researches consumer behavior's impact on textiles and introduces tools like the Wearer Dashboard to facilitate understanding and change in clothing use. NewTexEco participates in events like Dutch Design Week and Circular Textile Days to engage with the sustainable textile community and discuss innovative solutions. Additionally, NewTexEco welcomes new members to its team and reinforces commitments to research and education aimed at transforming the fashion and textile landscape towards sustainability and circularity.
