OVAM

OVAM, part of the Flemish government, focuses on sustainable waste and materials management and aims for clean soil in Flanders. They assist in achieving zero waste, promote proper sorting of waste, and work towards remediation of historical soil contamination by 2036. The Flemish government supports various groups in managing resources crucial to the environment, such as raw materials and groundwater. OVAM provides tailored information for citizens, schools, government agencies, and experts. In 2024, a record amount of electrical and electronic waste was collected, highlighting effective collaboration. OVAM also emphasizes education and awareness for waste reduction and supports the redevelopment of polluted industrial sites. Following PFOS contamination, the Flemish government instituted measures, encouraging Flanders to transition to a circular economy. Additionally, they offer a newsletter for updates on sustainability initiatives.
